Pre-flop all-in

Postby Lech1968 » Mon Nov 14, 2005 5:04 pm

Concerning No-limit Hold'em. When playing pocket Aces. Is it better to limp-in, or go all-in pre-flop to chase away sometimes lucky, bad starting hands? I seem to lose quite a bit with this hand and would like to know what the odds are when played either way to increase my win percentage.

Change it up depending on your position. I like to put out a medium size raise and hope for a re-raise. I never limp, I don't want 8 people in the hand with me. AA is very hard to fold, but u may be forced to if the flop is something like JJ9.

You should really only be going all in if you are guaranteed to get a caller or stealing the blinds alone is worth no callers.  On the other hand, limping with AA is about the worst move you can make.  The goal should be to entice one, maybe two callers...but that is it.  The more people in, the better your chances of losing to a lesser hand.

Never liked limping in in early position but sometimes it works only against aggressive players on the table.

A lot depends on...well, a lot. How deep in a tourney, stack sizes, etc.

But generally...I try to open with about a 5X BB raise. The idea with AA is to get ONE caller. More callers gives you more of a chance of getting sucked out, so limping is defintely not a good idea. If you get re-raised, great...push all in and either they fold or call you with a lesser hand.

i would go all-in w/ it unless people have been raising a lot before it gets to u, then i wud just call and go from there.

definitely depends, against 1 or 2 opponents, raise moderately, but yea,if  you got 5-6 limpers with a raise, go all in or raise a massive amount, my aces dont get cracked too often

Raise big. Let people with lower pocket pairs go all in with short stacks thinking you have high cards. thats what i usually do.
