Betting to gain knowledge

Postby Enuenated » Sat Mar 18, 2006 3:02 am

Betting is not always because you have the best hand. Top players use various betting techniques to try to gain information. For example, a defensive bet is one that you can use early on to avoid calling a bigger future bet. A re-raise may be used to probe the credibility of your opponent’s hand.

You absolutely correct. Just today I was sweating a friend of mine he was telling me his cards over the phone on a site that I don't play on. I told him to bet at least 5 times, 3 where to get information/pick up the pot but he's plays so scared I couldn't get him to do it. Of course he goes out with a whimper on the bubble. (what else is new). Use these bets to your advantage. Then again, I love to reraise the minimum bet up front that looks like a "where am I at bet" with nothing. But thats for another discussion.

i think a lot of times a "get info bet"

is like truushot said,"a pick up the pot bet"

same action....different words.

if it works....use it.
