There Dangers Of Slow Playing

Postby Pried1986 » Thu Feb 02, 2006 7:46 pm

Sometimes If A Flop Something Great I'll Slow Play It But Than The Other Player Will Catch On Me So Lately I Just Bet When I Have It Cause It's Better To Win A Small Pot Than Lose A Big One

yes i agree. the other thing to try is mixing it up every now and again. showing a bluff in the beginning of a tourny then tightening up after that usually works

The one think I have learnt. Is never slowplay! The only time I will slow play is if I have the absolute nuts. If you slowplay you are always gonna get out drawn by some bs.

I think you misunderstand the term slow play.  It's not about taking forever to play the hand.  It' means to not bet a very big hand, hoping to get someone to make a big bluff at the pot.  Or hoping for someone to catch up with a weaker hand and make a big bet.

I think it seems that if you slow play you lose more often....So isn´t it better to win a small pot than none at all :D

Slow play

Postby Thernand » Wed Feb 08, 2006 5:21 am

Here i a perfect example.

I had A-A on the button and doubled the raise.. BB called.. Probably had rags.. But Any 2 cards can win pre-flop.

My first mistake was I didnt raise a bit more.. So I knew exactly what I was dealing with.

the flop was blank-blank-Ace (rainbow) I thought I was gold... He checked..as Did I.. thinking this is going to be a great trap. Turn looked so harmless and he checked to me.. I deceided to make a small raise.. He called.

River Looked harmless too and he checked to me.. Well I decided to make a decent size raise on my trip aces.. There was nothing out there.. Unless he played 5-8 and those blanks I told you about  4 and 6 and a 7 on the river.. When he doubled my raise.. I was pretty sure he caught and insted of me making him pay more for each cards.. He caught the straight... Pot odds made me call as maybe he had 2 pair. Nope he had it..

This was in a wsop tourny on a final table and crippled me. So insted of fighting for 1st.. This one hand that I tried to "Slow play" probably cost me the tourny.

I hardly ever slow play, if I have a big hand I will bet it big and make people pay to see the flop.

Slowplaying pocket As or AK isnt right, bet hard. If you do hit a set with a nice pair, 88-AA, I do slowplay. You got to play the hands in the way others cant read your hand.... A slowplayer doesnt show anything of a hand...

I've discovered this fact, but it only applies online for the most part. I've tried to slow play more then a few monsters to only have runner runner bust me. B&M it just doesn't happen. Then again B&M you don't get as many monters either.
