1-Table SNG Strategy

Postby Tifficust » Fri Jun 16, 2006 1:10 am

Anyone have any good tips for this kind of a tourney?

I usually play super tight at the beginning until a few people are out and then i get more involved. However im not always successful with this method.

Anyone have anything to add?

Hold em?  What limit?

If you are talking NLHE, which I'm pretty sure you are, its best to sit back and wait for monsters until the blinds hit 25/50.  Some people I know will not play any hand other than AA,KK,QQ in the early rounds.  By playing this way, you build a very tight image that you can try to exploit once the blinds start to escalate and it becomes easier to steal with a 3xBB raise.

Thanks for the advice. I was talking about NL HE. I try to play supertight early on in these kinds of games but sometimes i don't get the monster hands and mess up when I play a mediocre hands. But when I do get a monster I play it strong.

I think this approach is good for any tournament you play in, whether it be a STT SNG, a MTT SNG, or a MTT.  There's no need to lose the tournament early.  You should be conservative, and wait for your opportunity to strike.

I just want to add that if you're a good player, don't play at tables with buy-in lower than $5. I found that last two months. At $5 or lower there are many type of players whereas at $10 and higher there are more players who don't play like total losers.
