what i hate the most

Postby Theapoes » Sun Mar 05, 2006 3:24 pm

the thing i hate the most in poker, is say you have JJ in mid position you decide to raise and get one caller the flop comes A K 9 he checks you bet he calls, turn 8 he checks you bet bigger he calls, river 6 he checks you bet like 70% of your stack and he calls with the K or something, i mean yes he won the hand, but surely most people would have played me for an A

yes you may hate that but you were betting into him with 2 over cards on the board, would you have been making the same move if you had PK 7 with a A K 6 flop  5 turn  and 3 river?  odds of holding best hand about the same.

Ok Pk JJ is a reasonable starting hand and a preflop raise fine but in this scanario and you have a calling station who wont fold dont try to get them out of the pot, in this case I would have bet after the flop and as soon as called you have to assume they are holding at the worst a drawing hand (JQ Q 10  J 10) and that is the only thing you can beat that they will call you with.

A or K with a weak kicker will get a call and there is always the chance that they are trapping you with something stronger.

One thing I do with pocket Js is bet rather large to get the weak hands out so I know only people with two face cards are prob calling, that way if they come down on the board I know I am most likely beat. Its a hard lay down sometimes but at least you know.

Those players are good and bad.

You gotta get to know them because they will pay you off with any made hand you have.  The problem is they're impossible to read.  Consider slowing down after called on the flop and certainly on the turn.  You can't convince such a dim player to fold his second pair that looks very weak given the conditions in the hand.

I like to call JJ the "two little hooks"....to be quite honest it's really like a pair of 10's or mid pair, especially when 10 people are playing.....short handed it's great!

Yes calling stations. There hard to read, you would wish them to re-raise, do something to let you know what there holding. !! Another thing i hate is players who hold 2 suited cards and flop 2 more suited. You should check and see the turn maybe and bet the river big but still you cannot push these chasers out of the pot. There prepared to go ll in on the river. Very frustraing when they catch !!

i hate JJ, its the hand i've lost the most money with. if one overcard appears you have to bet enough to see what other player has, only problem is deciding what is enough

Unfortunately, that will happen often, so usually i will loosen up with jacks after that flop comes and he calls to see a turn, then you check it and see a river, it helps you, great, if it doesn't, let the hand go, cause you know its not good.

JJ is always a problem in NL for me.  Love them in limit.  For NL I play them like a middle pair early in a touny,  Limp and look for a set.  You just can't bet enough to get A rag to fold preflop.  Late and esp at a final table they become a very good hand.
