i agree with you but in freerolls ,some players are just there for fun ,not to win,so they will go with any hand, and it doesn't matter if they win it or lose it, one guy went all in with q 5,i called with a pocket K and lost , guess what he got a straight,i was furious, but i learned my lesson, in a freeroll, don't call all in in the beginning, because all the non serious players will go in with any thing, so just take it easy until they are eliminated and they will, it's just a matter of time

Tournament play strategy

Postby Whictime » Thu Mar 02, 2006 1:10 am

Tournaments (especially freerolls) can be all-in fests. If you are patient and wait until all these wild and unskilled players have run their course (usually 30 minutes or so) you can get down to some serious play. I can't tell you how many time I've been in a Omaha Hi/Lo and someone types in the chat box "how do you play this game?" You have to laugh, but once these players are done, the game gets down to business as usual. I sit back and only play premium hands until the kids are gone.

Many of these players are playing multiple freerolls at the same time. They figure if they get lucky they will then give it a go. Otherwise they can focus on the other tournaments that they are playing.

I have to agree with trushot. Alot of times im doing several at once so Ill go for it on 1 to get a quick lead. I know its crappy poker, but just being honest.

hey guys

i do not agree with this all in pre-flop most hands stuff i have been playing poker now for 2yrs i love poker with a passion but you get these people who take no care in the game itself they are just there to infuriate others like you and i i have learned just to sit back not to call them as the always win with rags there is very few poker freeroles now if any that doesnt have these morons spoiling it for others just keep playing and keep enjoying

While I certainly don't like it when I lose a lot or even all my chips because someone playing rags sucks out on my good hand, I try to remember that I want to get my chips into the middle in this type of situation.

Also, I think some people don't realize that two overs vs. two unders is only about a 65:35 favorite.  They think their AQ (or whatever) is dominant against 84 (or whatever) when the math says they'll win slightly less than two times out of three.  So part of the disappointment is due to inaccurate expectations.

Yeah. if your all-in a freeroll early theres a good chance youll be out. In early position i personally wont play much early-on. To many callers, no matter what your hand.

Well on the all in it does bother me. What can we do nothing. Like everyone says just wait them out. What bothers me the most about them is when they do it in a heads up tourney. I've seen some people call 7 2 off suit just to win the blinds. But hey it's poker, every hand is a good hand depending on what the flop brings out.

freerolls will always be like that and never change because its for free so no one cares but in the bigger freerolls where you can win big bucks you wont see this happen as much.

The only thing that pisses me of is that if u get AA as your first hand in an freeroll, you are most likely to loose, because 8 people behind you will call. Even if they dont have a hand at all..

i agree with you but in freerolls, people just seem to not care. Its just one of those things you gotta watch out for.
