I hated doing this last night but the freeroll paid 18 deep.  I was at 5th at 2nd break.  I got a few bad breaks and ended up seeing myself in 18th with 20 left and 19 and 20 were on fumes.  I went passive watching the other tables. I decided I was not playing until there was 18 left. I dropped AQ suited with 1 raise in front of me.  I dropped A2 suited and the next hand was A8 suited.  Dropped it again.  After that their were only 18 left and I played from low position okay.  Just wondering what others would of done after investing 2 plus hours in

I can understand why you did this, I think most of us have done the same at some stage.

Some points to consider though.

How much does the lower places paid

Most players tighten up near the bubble so palying agressive with big hands can usually get a fold from anyone apart from really big stacks.

Your position when you get these hands.

I think you made a mistake.

The goal isn't simply to make it into the money.  You want to make the play that maximizes your profit potential.  In some cases that means you will bubble out.  It sucks, but if you want to make the most money playing poker, you have to take that chance.

Unless the pay scale is really flat, it makes more sense to shoot for first than to just try to make the money.

The first goal of tournament poker is getting in the money.  If you are short stacked and on the bubble, the primary goal is to get some money instead of nothing.

i would have done the same thing in your position, if im short stacked in the bubble i play really tight. but if im average i will bully the shortstacks that are just trying to make it in the money
