how I play jacks depends on a number of factors. How many on the table, and who they are. If I know who I'm up against it affect how I play them. Also is it early or late game. I never play them the same way twice. Which makes it harder for those who've played me before to figure what I have - another bonus!

But I generally play them strong preflop and hope I'm not up against a bigger pair.

I agree - see the flop

Today I saw JJ get called and beat everytime it was raised big pre flop. Online so many players do not respect a big raise, especially if they're holding A anything.

I hate this hand also probably more then any. I actually fold this hand in early position alot.  Play it hard with 6 or less players. Im acually suprised that its a winning hand more often then not. Different results then ive had. I bet in large $ games the win percentage goes up as you wont have people calling with ace rags.

The worst hand for me to get has to be Jacks just because I have lost so many tourys on them. Winning 1 out of 7 is not what you would call a good score with them. :s  :h  :c  :d

i usually play them one of two ways . big raise preflop or limp or call small raise  with them . they almost never hold up , too many overs that beat them.  the percentage they win is  probaly lower than the 50%  mentioned.

I agree with BH. I usually like to limp in with them and see what happens on the flop. If I'm getting lowstacked, I will go all in with them though and hope someone is just trying to knock you out when they have alot of chips.

how to play jj

Postby Billessic2 » Sun Feb 05, 2006 6:58 pm

well basically jacks are a good hand and u need to know how and when to bet strong with them, if you are in late position and no ne raised then jacks should raise strong hopefully to kick out the rags, now ur probably going heads up aganst a low pair or two high cards, when the flop hits asess the situation, if ur first to act and there are over cards " test the table" with a small bet

you have to see what comes on the flop on this one, then bet accordingly

I like JJ but i feel I have to play very agg. with them if there are alot of players would rather bet others out that way you would figure that the hands left in are good and you know what your that point it a depends on the flop.

It really depends on what people are doing at the table and the position you are in.  JJ is a very tough hand to play, sometimes I think the right move is to call and other times I think a raise, and some other times I think all-in.  For instance when I have a short stack at a table im going all-in with those Jacks you most likely will get someone to call you most of the time and if not just remember that if you at least picked up something rather than losing.  I mean there easily could have been an A,K,8 that came up on that flop (or something like that).  So I think you play a JJ based on what position you are in.

I agree with the genral train of thought, I just call with JJ. I have been busted too any times and now I hate when I see them!

Play them like a man!!! Raise them, lead with them unless there are a lot of people in the pot if anything but an Ace hits. If a lot of people are in the pot, you either didn't raise enough or your playing limit. Limit it becomes short of a lot of action a check and call situation with anything but an Ace on the board.
