ring vs tournament

Postby Sages1989 » Mon Apr 11, 2005 11:26 am

had a question. what is the diference between how

to play a ring game vs. a tournament.

i seem to do better at tounaments in comparison

to when i play ring games.

and i can not seem to put my finger on exactly why.

maybe ring games are played less aggressivly????

for example....fewer pot sized bets???

any ideas?? thanks.

You're right its all about aggression. You probably bet differently in a tourney. In a tournament you can spend 5 bucks and get 1000 chips. In a ring game if you spend 5 bucks, that's exactly what you bring to the table...5 bucks. Also in a tourney everyone starts out on a level playing field...with 1000 chips or whatever. In a ring game you could start with a $20 max buy-in, and there might already be 3 players sitting there with over $150 bullying you around with their stacks. You can make more money at a faster rate in a ring game, but you can also lose money faster too, and whether you realize it or not you probably adjust your playing style slightly. That's my take on the whole thing anyway.

shakedown,

hey thanks for the input.

very helpfull.

i think that bulling around thing is right on.

it doesn¨t bother me as much in a tourny;

probably because it is easier to just wait

for better cards against the bully. and if

it is a freeroll there is certainly less pressure for

me because the bully is not after my $.

it occured to me that maybe when i play freerolls

i¨m not actually gambling.....because i do not have

my $ involved.

best,
donvic
