My best hand came in a $20 Buy-in NL Holdem Tournament at AP. It was early in the tournament, and I was chasing a weak flush (had 5 7 of diamonds in my hand). There was a 4 and 8 of diamonds on the board after the turn. I had no expectations of a straight flush; I was just hoping any diamond would come on the board. My opponent bet fairly big after the flop, and after the turn. After the turn bet, I almost folded. It was early in the tournament, and I hated to put myself at a disadvantage if a diamond failed to come on the river.
The river card was the magic gutshot 6 of diamonds  . I had not only caught my flush, but a STRAIGHT FLUSH! I checked once again, and my opponent bet enough to put me all-in. I knew at that point that he had caught his flush as well; I almost expected him to have an A high flush, and be disgusted to see my straight flush. I of course called, and he revealed his hand- A K of diamonds!
I took a huge pot down, and was surprised to be complemented on my hand by him instead of criticized for calling such a huge bet after the turn.
Unfortunately, I failed to cash in this tournament, but a hand this great gave me some solace.
