do you call?

Postby ACE-magnet » Tue Sep 20, 2005 4:58 pm

ok im playing 1-1-2 blinds average bring in is 5 or 10 dollars. im up 240 already and am dealt 4-5 hearts in late position. 2 calls and the big blind makes it 5 to go we all call. flop is 6-7-Q 6-Q are hearts! flush and openended straight draws! 3 call a 5 dollars bet 5 of clubs on turn so now board is 5-6-7-Q a 20 dollar bet i call we are now heads up roughly 80 dollars in pot if i remember correctly river is 8 of spades and he moves in for 215! i folded the ass end of the straight due to pot odds not risking 215 to win 300 when all i had invested was 30 bucks it simply was too big a bet for me to call. replaying the hand that evening and for a couple days i feel i made a mistake and should have called. also he told me he had trips why would a poker player lie? 8)  either way i won 179.00 profit in 2 hours with a head cold not feeling well, enough to buy a new putter;and won a golf tournament 2 days later :)

As far as your first story goes, I believe you made the right fold. You were on your draws, and even though you got one of them, you would have been dishing out so much more than you already had in the pot.
For the second story, I'm assuming the blinds were 1-2 as well, so you had to assume the player had a DECENT starting hand to call a bet 7.5 times the BB. You got lucky and hit on your river. If you hadn't, you woulda been down $100 instead of up over $200. Thats just poker, and I hope you didnt brag or celebrate too much when that king came on the river, cuz if there's one thing i hate in poker, its people celebrating their bad beat. Nice playing though

What were you thinkin' . . . ?

In stories like this, you have to ask the question . . . What were you doing betting money on these rags?  9 times out of 10, this is hand you fold BEFORE the flop.

I'm amazed!!!!!  Playing rags like that is not a win.  You just got lucky.  Next time you will lose big time
