The best way to play pockets Aces

Postby Ecastiou » Sun Dec 04, 2005 5:54 pm

I'm never real sure what the best way to play pocket rockets.
I guess I make my decision according to how loose the table has been playing.   If a few players have been loose I will probably go all in preflop if the table is tight i will hold back.  But so often everyone ends up checking before the flop and I feel I havent gotten the most out of my hand. So I think the majority of the time i usually at least bet the minimum if it's a tight table but if there has been some loose play in previous hands I wll go to 3-5 times the blind or all in especially if it's during high blinds late in the game.

How do you all like to play them?
thanks,

Never immediately raise or go all in, wait and then act so it looks like you don't have something big

I always do one thing with them, and that is raise preflop.  That doesn't mean you price people out of the hand, but it does mean that you make it expensive to stick around.  The idea is to pit yourself against one or two other opponents....by not raising, you are inviting others to enter the hand and get lucky.  By raising too much, you are limiting the profit potential of the hand.

Dont fall in love with them. Raise preflop, but be ready to fold if the flop is ugly, something like KKJ, or J10Q. But never try to slow play them, it rarely works. Unless you flop a monster, don't try to get too cute with it.

I believe that aces and jacks are the hardest pocket pair to play.  I raise huge with jacks because I hate them.

fold.

heh seriously, play them hard and strong, if u only take the blinds 2/3 times, the 3rd time you will double your stacl, well 80% of the time you will. Aces can be nasty as well as godley.

i disagree. Sometimes it is the right thing to do to slow play aces. Obviously not at a full table but if its heads up or you dont think anyone will call a raise i just limp in and hope the other person hits something which will allow me to extract more chips from him
