JJ & 10 10

Postby Warorinced » Sat Nov 19, 2005 9:43 pm

Interested in hearing how you play JJ and 10 10 -- both are very difficult hands with a full table -- 1on1 I'm good with them but otherwise they're hard to play.

I think there is 2 ways to play that kind of hand: you only call on the preflop and you hope for low card on the flop or you 'over' re-raise and you hope that one or two players will call you. Less players will see the flop so you have more chance to win!!!

With these hands you have to raise preflop but not to much because if overcards come you will probably lose. Also you raise to get the bad hands out so if the flop is 2 5 9 you will most likely have the best hand.

Ya I dont go too crazy over JJ or 10 10 anymore, i have been screwed just too many times.  I honestly dont think i like any starting hand before i see the flop, it is so easy to get surprised by 2 pair

No doubt. Just the other day I was dealt TT in a .50/1 cash game and had been playing flawless. I raised in first position to $4 and I got reraised the minimum to $8. Right there I almost folded but wanted to flop a set, figuring he MAY have an overpair on me. Well the flop came all rags no higher than a 9 and I pushed em in, after thinking I should chck then fold. I knew he had QQ and after he flipped his cards after making the call, he had QQ. I was so disappointed that I didnt listen to my gut at least one of the two times I wanted to fold. Everyone was like oh that sucks and you could never know - but I did, and thats what pisses me off.

Both hands look good from the start but I will usually like to slow play them because most of the time I seem to get them someone has a pocket k or ace and gets another on the river.Lost many a game on those hands.See you at mthe tables.

I would choose 1010. It is my favorite hands.

I think jj and 10 10 are the most difficult hands to play in poker.  One reason being their are types of cards that can beat them on the flop qq,kk,and aa.  My strategy for jj, to raise like you had ak so if the flop is low and somebody hits it they think your betting on nothing or it is a very good allin hand against tilted players.

I raise on that hand and if someone make a reraise I fold!
It is not a good hand and without third J or 10 win this hand is very difficulty.

:D    :D  Hey Forrest.  How come a pro like you is asking for poker advice?  I'm totally flabbergasted!!  You are one of my idols, now, you've dropped one rung in my Canadian Idol poker ladder.

Not much a simple poker player like me could add to what has already been said.  All the above advice seems right.  I don't think there ever is a right or wrong way to play those hands.

Didn't I take you out once or twice, in my short poker career??    :D

depending on position and game type you play a little differently, but you have to play aggressive otherwise you may lose to hand of lesser value

With pockets J's, I will raise to 4x BB. Then if there is no face card, I bet 4x BB again, If there is a face card I bet 3x BB. If two face cards I bet 2x etc. I just keep doing this for each card to stay agressive. Obviously if the guy dramatically raises you on the flop and there is a face card, you'll have to fold, but that is just how the game is.
