Raising pre-flop

Postby Sontribled » Sat Jul 29, 2006 11:47 am

In general on a full table, what cards would you raise pre-flop with? Specifically in an early position.

AA, KK, QQ, and any AK!
Maybe AQ suited depending on the table!

They have standard charts that give you a basic outline of this information. What you will discover is that there is no easy answer to this question. It depends. I'll raise a lot of different hands from a lot of different positions depending on the situation.

Those standard charts are basically intended as a starting point for relatively new beginners and those who want to play a solid ABC style.  They don't take into account things like whether you're at a very loose or very tight table, so there are factors that can and should lead to making adjustments ad hoc.

It's fun!

I just love to re-raise pre-flop.
It makes me feel that I have the power over that pot. And it's always cool to re-raise and see everyone fold, including the guy that raised. Respect!!!

Re-raise pre-flop!

I just love to re-raise pre-flop.  I don't know maybe the power or just because I am a gambler at heart...

I would raise with good to excellent hands: pocket pairs 6 or 7 and up, AK-A-J, KQ maybe KJ.  king ten and queen jack are almost never raisable preflop in an early position.

I usually only re-raise if I have a high pair or have AK.Too mant times I have put in way to much in the pot only to be beat out, usually on the river.See you at the tables!

The answer is different online as it would be live. Online I'd probably raise 1010 and better, AJ and better.
